Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

Sexual orientation:
“I need help figuring out what I am!”

Hey Terra,

I need help trying to figure out if I'm straight, bi, or lesbian. I am very interested in guys a lot, and with girls I do get turned on by them when they're looking good. Before when I was younger (I'm 16 now) I remember I made out with about 2 girls, and a few years ago I had have oral sex with about 2 other girls. And sometimes I still feel like doing those stuff again. So hopefully you can help me figure out what I am. Thanx

Confused

Dear Confused,

While it's not unusual for young teens to have same-sex crushes, that doesn't usually include sexual behavior. When it comes right down to it, you're the only one who can figure out what your inborn sexual orientation is.

The best place to start is on the Internet by checking out Gay Student Center's site. They're a Web Community and Resource for Lesbian, Bisexual, and Questioning College Students and Teens.

Check this page on Sexual Orientation at my web site too.

Call the Gay Youth Hotline at 1 800 96 YOUTH and talk with the cool folks there. (The call is free and it won't appear on your parents' phone bill.)

Feeling comfortable with your sexual orientation and feeling good about who you are (whatever that turns out to be) is often a process, especially when you may not be getting much support for being anything other than heterosexual. And it's going to take talking with people who understand and who have been there.

Know that you are not alone. Check out these web resources and look in your phone book for any local chapters of PFLAG. They're all over the place, especially if you live in or near a large city. When school starts again, think about talking privately with the school counselor.

Stay in touch. I care about you and I'd like to know how you are doing.

In friendship,

Terra
