Sex and Sexuality:
“Can sperm come out of a condom from the sides?”
Hey Terra,
I don't know who else I can talk to about this. But I was wondering, when I use condoms while having sex, couldn't any sperm come out of the condom from the sides? Not out of a hole, but if I was to have sex for about an hour, wouldn't the condom get filled up and sperm would come out of it? I just had sex for the first time and I'm really scared that I might or could get pregnant.Unsure
Dear Unsure,
A condom, if it's "fresh" (that means it is a new one) and it's been put on properly, and held in place when it's taken off... Is a very good form of protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
You say you had sex "for an hour"... Does that mean that the guy came more than once? The reason I'm asking is that condoms are not supposed to be used more than once. For each new ejaculation (cum) the guy should put on a new condom.
It sounds like you should A) educate yourself about condoms. Read this section about condoms at The InSite.
B) take a pregnancy test to make sure. Most pregnancy test kits are not going to show you anything the day after you had unprotected sex. It's too soon for any possible pregnancy hormones in your body to build to a level that they'd show up on a test. If you're in the United States, I suggest you call the Planned Parenthood National Network at 1.800.230.7526 (PLAN). They'll give you the number of the clinic closest to you. Call them during open hours (the people who answer the phones are very cool) and tell them what you told me. They'll let you know how long you have to wait before you can take a home pregnancy test. If you live outside the US, check out the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
I wish you well and I hope this helps.
In friendship,
Terra
