Communication Problems:
“My old best friend is jealous of my new best friend.”
Hey Terra,
I have just moved to a new school in a different district. I just recently found out that my best friend from my previous school was best friends with my new friend at my new school. Somehow they were friends in preschool and lost touch.I'm spending a lot of time with my new friend and now the girl from my previous school is jealous. I'm so busy because I am at a new school and in a play and I don't know when I can get the time to spend with her.
-stuck in between-
Dear -stuck in between-,
Moving to a new school has brought on lots of changes for you, I'm sure. And I'm glad that you've got a new friend to help you with the transition of fitting in. You don't say how far away your new school is from your old school, so I have no idea how much effort it would take for you to see your old friend. But here's something you need to ask yourself: Do you still care for your old friend and value the friendship? If so, then you will create some time to be with her as you have found time in your busy schedule to spend time with you new friend (even if it's just once a month). If you aren't really interested in maintaining a friendship with your old friend, then the first step to resolving your problem is to be honest with yourself about how you feel and then talk to her.
In friendship,
Terra
