Girls’ Friendship Without the Drama workshop

Friendships give girls opportunities to create standards for how they want to be treated by others. Parents can help by reinforcing the fact that every friendship is a 2-way street. To have good friends you need to be a good friend. What does that look like?

Hour 1: Girls and parents meet together with Annie. Parents observe while Annie works with the girls, teaching them to:

  • Calm down
  • Think clearly about friendship challenges and options
  • Speak up for themselves and others
  • ''The Girls Q&A Book on Friendship: 50 Ways to Fix a Friendship Without the DRAMA'' by Annie Fox, M.Ed., illustrated by Erica De Chavez
    Resolve conflicts in helpful ways

Hour 2: Girls and parents split into two separate groups. In the first group, girls engage in supervised Girl Scout-approved friendship-building activities with a teen Girl Scout or an adult arranged for by your troop. In the second group, Annie works exclusively with parents, teaching them to:

  • Be a more positive, calming influence
  • Maximize teachable moments
  • Model assertiveness and respect
  • Encourage resilience in their daughters

Note: Each girl attending Girls’ Friendship Without the Drama workshop takes home an autographed copy of Annie’s latest book, The Girls Q&A Book on Friendship.

Strong Girls — Strong Families

Your relationship with your daughter can be the most rewarding and challenging one for both of you.  In this workshop, 5th through 8th grade girls and moms (or another caring adult) will learn together how to weather the normal changes girls face as they grow older, seek more independence, and navigate internal and external challenges.

Hour 1: Working in small groups each comprised of 2-4 girls plus 2-4 caring adults, we’ll use a combination of art, brainstorm, role-play and group sharing to explore these questions and others:

  • How do you know when you’ve been a good daughter/parent?
  • What do you wish your mom/daughter understood better about you?
  • In what ways are you and your daughter/mom very similar? In what ways are you different?
  • ''Middle School Confidential, Book 3: What's Up With My Family?' by Annie Fox, Illustrated by Matt Kindt
What do you want more of from each other? What do you want less of?
  • What do you and your daughter like/admire most about each other?
  • What do you wish you could change and why?
  • What is one argument you wish and your daughter never had to have again?

After a short break

Hour 2: Time to pair up! Annie will provide tools to help you and your daughter focus on specific challenges the two of you experience in your relationship. The result? Tools for each girl and adult to take home so they can continue the process of growing strong together by finding positive ways to move through sticky places with more confidence in their ability to communicate (talk and listen) and a renewed sense of mutual love and respect.

Note: Each girl attending the Strong Girls — Strong Families Workshop takes home an autographed copy of Book 3 of Annie’s award-winning  Middle School Confidential series, What’s Up With My Family?.
