Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

“My sister is hitting me and my parents don't care.”
(Continued)

Hey Terra,

I don't tell my parents because when I do it's just like "Wait" or "Not right now" and when that happens I feel like they don't care. So then I don't have much courage to tell them because I'm very sensitive and get really hurt when people laugh at me or make fun of me or I talk about something that bothers me. Then I start to cry and when I cry my Dad doesn't listen or care period.

Bruised

Dear Bruised,

Please find a time when your mom is not too busy to listen to you. This is serious and I'm sure she cares and wouldn't want you to be hurt by your sister or anyone else. If you stay silent this is likely to continue. Telling me was the first step to getting the help you need to put an end to your sister's abusive behavior. Telling your mom is the next step.

Do you believe that you deserve to feel safe in your own home with no one hitting you? If you believe that (and it's true!) then you need to talk to your mom.

Please.

I care about you.

In friendship,

Terra
